The Vulnerability

On May 10, 2025, the container ship MSC ANTONIA ran aground on a Red Sea reef near Jeddah due to severe GPS spoofing that blinded its navigation. Incidents of this scale typically incur millions of dollars in salvage costs, potential hull repairs, and cargo delays. It took rescue teams nearly two weeks of intense salvage operations with multiple tugboats to finally stabilize and refloat the 304-meter-long vessel.
